Let us pray that we would despise all of the empty talk of the word and men as long as we are upright in the eyes of the Lord; that we would desire to obey God’s laws because they are good and they are given to us for protection and warning that we may not fall into sin and bring blasphemy and reproach to the holy name of our God.
Just as any parent knows the moment our child crawls or walks the struggle between wills of the child and the parent really begin. This is how we can tend to behave with God. As with our children, we know that their independence can lead to danger and they are oblivious.
In eternal matters, salvation, and life and death man is fully impotent to assist us. To put our hope or trust in governing authorities is to place our faith in broken vessels. To do this is double-minded. But, God; God is faithful. He is not only able to help us, but He is also willing. He is faithful to His Word, and unchangeable in His promises. We must put our faith, hope, and trust in Him. Even when it seems that there is no help left on earth we must have a vibrant and robust hope that God is our help.
At times I think that ‘I’ am holding ‘my’ own life together in ‘my’ power. And I thought deeply today after all of this. I considered is my life not like Jonah’s gourd? What did I contribute to it to bring it into existence?
Think back on when God saved you and see that His grace, mercy, and lovingkindness have been poured out bountifully in an uninterrupted stream. Will He not continue to give you this Living Water?
Let us pray to face each day without fear, that our hearts will hold fast to the confidence of our hope in Christ. That our hearts will have the certain assurance that they are upheld by God who holds all things together. Let us pray that we may find sin more fearful than illness, calamity or death, and seek to destroy the sin with in us until the Lord takes us home.
Wherever there is faith in God, there is a holy godly fear. He is our protector and defender. Let us praise Him and honor Him with our trust and faith. Let us live in holiness and godliness that is set apart from the world. Let us think on the heavenly things and not our present troubles, for our God knows them all. Let us proclaim, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reins.”
