Your Highest Calling

Many seemingly godly women from their social media pulpits encourage other women to do whatever is right in their own eyes. Denying God’s design for women to be wives and mothers. This is our highest calling. And these women are so easy to follow. While they may even agree that the pastorate is specifically for men, they’ve found a way around the pesky problem of it being shameful for women to speak in the church. These women often are learned degree-bearing scholars instead of learning from their own husbands at home. It is not uncommon for them to have been trained up in seminaries right alongside this generation of limp wristed spineless ‘pastors’ being churned out that continually compromise on the Word of God. We might be tempted to think if in every way they have been trained alongside pastors, and they hold their various degrees, then maybe there’s a good chance that they’re speaking the truth, and we would should listen to them; after all, they may know better than us.

This can make the mother of 5 children staying home and serving her family per God’s design like maybe she’s been duped. Perhaps she could have done something a little more ‘productive’ in her life. These women draw us in with gentle affirming words, their pleasant subdued colors on their posts, and pleasing aesthetic floral arrangements. They look like they have it all together. They’re so complementary to us, and they give hearty approval to every comment anyone leaves that agrees with their unbiblical positions. Like the serpent in the garden, they seduce us with flattering lips. They creep in unaware by pointing to scripture, but like Satan always has, they start throwing in a bit of doubt, a little twisting, and a little adding to the Word of God. Well, That’s great for tweaking the perfect chocolate chip cookie, but not so much when you’re seeking to balm the consciences of your loyal followers. So let’s leave the recipe tweaking in the kitchen.

If there’s anything that they’re contentious about, it’s only towards those women that seek to apply what God has said to their lives as He has really stated it. The litmus test compares their instruction to the words that God has said. When you hold someone’s directives up to the mirror of the holy scriptures, it is as though you can see the giant waving red flag with “Has God really said” emblazoned across it in neon lights. The appeal is that these women seductively teach from their social media pulpits things that align with each of our own fleshly desires. The very desires that we are called to daily put to death by a tent peg, through the skull like Jael did to Sisera. These women deceive us by appealing to our flesh, and then satan whispers in our ear, “See, what you want is not so bad; it’s surely not sinful. Why would God withhold from you this thing that you want? After all, can you not serve God in anything that you choose to do?”

Anyone encouraging you to leave God’s design for you does not love you. In fact, they hate your very soul, and they have partnered with Satan to bring great curses and disobedience into your lives. God has prescribed for us very specifically what He intends for each of our lives by nature. If you have been born a woman with female body parts (controversial, I know), then His design for you is to be a she/her with the vocation of wife and a mother. That’s it. Very simple. And when we compromise on this single foundational principle, many evils and sin spring forth.

We can add a bunch of things to His Word, and we can bring out all of the ‘bUt wHaT aBouT DebOraH’ objections, but the truth is none of those things are normative. None of those things are prescriptive. Do not think that God has neglected to give explicit instruction for every woman ever born, but don’t take my word for it, let’s give it the litmus test of scripture.

And the Lord God said it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him…and he took one of his ribs…and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man…she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Ephesians 5 tells us that this is a great mystery, but it concerns Christ and His Bride the church. And they were both naked, the man and his WIFE.

God refers to a woman from creation as a wife. She was created in the role of wife. There was no other plan. God refers to Eve as a wife again in Genesis 3. God also tells us the purpose of being a wife. In Genesis 1:28, God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it.” Women are to participate in the creation mandate by bearing children to be godly image bearers that will subdue and replenish the earth. It is so ingrained in the creation order that even in the midst of being cursed, Jesus Christ is promised through the directive and plan of God through childbearing. There is no second plan. Would Eve’s seed have brought forth Christ if God did not ordain it for women to bear children?

The woman is made for man. That’s not just my opinion. It isn’t just an Old Testament passage; it is reiterated in the New Testament. But overall, this passage is also rejected and denied far and wide concerning head-covering. In this passage, Paul also appeals from creation:

For if a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man.

This lets us know that the creation mandate is binding and unchanging. While as women, our highest callings are to image God properly and glorify Him forever in all that we set our hands to, God has given us specific roles in which to accomplish His plan and His will, which are very clearly demonstrated in His Word. These are the roles of wife and mother; these are the normative roles prescribed by God in His holy Word. Woman was made for man and we are under man, as man is head over her. This is God’s blessed wisdom. This is God’s revealed will.
