Psalm 118:8 (ESV): It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
Thetimes that we are living in can expose what it is that we really put our trust in. It is good that we go through these trials, for they expose our weakness and help turn us even more to God. We must ask ourselves, what do we really trust in? Is our trust in God, or is our trust in powers, rulers, and authorities?
Isaiah 2:22 (ESV): Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?
Man is selfish, we always seek our own highest good, and it is only those that are in Christ that are even able to love others as we love ourselves. Even Jesus said that He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man. And what is in man isn’t good. Man is feeble and weak, ignorant to wisdom, and given to sudden changing moods and behaviors. The heart of man is deceitfully wicked.
In eternal matters, salvation, and life and death man is fully impotent to assist us. To put our hope or trust in governing authorities is to place our faith in broken vessels. To do this is double-minded. But, God; God is faithful. He is not only able to help us, but He is also willing. He is faithful to His Word, and unchangeable in His promises. We must put our faith, hope, and trust in Him. Even when it seems that there is no help left on earth we must have a vibrant and robust hope that God is our help.
Jeremiah 17:5 (ESV): Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.
