Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27 (NAS)
For the Christian if we look at the world around us and see the peace that it offers us our hearts will certainly be troubled and fearful. The world that we live in cries peace when there is none to be found. It forces it’s version of peace that it calls tolerance and inclusivity down our throats, and says that anything and anyone that disagrees with it must be destroyed because it is unloving. The world tells us that there is peace in our career, our independence, our sexual activities, our education, our race, entertainment, sports, our possessions and the list goes on and on. Anything that puts self on an altar is where we can find this peace.
It cries it from the rooftops of our libraries that are built and exist on our tax dimes as men dressed as women are safely tucked inside with infants, toddlers, and adolescents. While they strip, gyrate, and teach the next generation about ‘gender fluidity’. They give out flavored condoms, anatomically correct genital shaped candy, and suggestions for how they can have sex in order from least safe to safe. We have parades all across America that put sodomy, adultery, and licentiousness on display as something to be ‘proud’ of touting banners saying ‘Pride is for kids too’. An entire generation is groomed to be prey for pedophiles and our approval is demanded. Likewise adults are being groomed to become pedophiles by seeing children as their sexually accepting equals. This young generation will be the influencers of our children and grandchildren! I cannot fathom the depravity that they will witness play out. All of this because peace is found in sex and deviancy from God’s design.
The world also offers us peace in aborting our children. Anyone that may have a difficult life, poverty, abuse, medical needs, handicap, or conceived in rape would have been better off if their mothers had paid someone to butcher or poison them in the womb, as their lives are simply not worth living. All because peace is found in nothing standing in the way of having your best life now. Scripture speaks truly in saying You desire and do not have, so you murder. James 4:2 (ESV)
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Romans 1:28-32 (ESV)
The wicked described in these verses not only do these things, but give approval to those who practice them. The world demands that we approve these blasphemies just as it does. It is marching to hell and it insists that we applaud and clear it a path as it marches by half naked and waving flags. Do we have to agree with what the world offers as peace? For those of us in Christ, our only peace is found in Him. God has something to say about the false peace that the world offers:
And you shall know that I am the Lord God. Precisely because they have misled my people, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, these prophets smear it with whitewash, say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall! There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out. And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’ Therefore thus says the Lord God: I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end. And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 13:9–14 (ESV)
Christians don’t have to agree with the terms of peace offered by the world. But is that enough? In these Ezekiel verses God tells us to say to the false prophets that have whitewashed the walls that the wrath of God is coming and they will perish under their lies and false promises. We have to SAY something, we have to SPEAK UP. We don’t get to just sit in our ivory towers holding a good moral opinion, we have to address this world that is offering false peace. We have to tell them that it leads to death and eternal punishment and it will never satisfy their desires, that they will always yearn for more and will never attain fulfillment. We must cry out that the King of Peace has come! He has lived a perfect life in the place of wicked sinners, while we were enemies He died for us! He rose again, defeating death to give us new life in Him. He ascended to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father where we will go also to live abundant life eternally! This is His peace, bringing us into healed relationship with a God. We have good news, we must bring it into conflict with the evils of our age, by sharing the good news of the kingdom of God. This is the duty and obedience of every Christian. We are to be about our Father’s work.
